Forschung

I am interested in the topographic evolution of orogens, rates and processes of fluvial erosion, and understanding how landforms and landscapes evolve in diverse tectonic and climatic settings. In my research I typically apply GIS and remote sensing, low-temperature thermochronology (coupled with thermal modeling), and cosmogenic nuclides. My recent research has focused on understanding the Late Cenozoic uplift history of the Anatolian Plateau, using river incision history, 87Sr/86Sr stratigraphy, and structural mapping of the plateau margins. Currently my group is investigating how diverse landscapes have been impacted by millennial-scale climate change in terms of changing erosion rates, vegetation, and stable isotope signatures, and investigating landscapes where we may distinguish between tectonic and climatic influences on landscape evolution.  These include projects in Kenya, the NW Himalaya, Argentina, and Chile.

  • DFG-funded Emmy Noether project SCHI 1241/1-1, “Geologic reconstructions of changes in erosion rates and hillslope processes in response to climate forcing”. Total €1,177,525. Awarded 12/2012.
  • Alexander von Humboldt Foundation post-doctoral fellowship, "Patterns and modes of Anatolian plateau uplift derived from geomorphic analysis, CRN exposure dating of landforms, and low-temperature thermochronology". 2-year salary plus €19,200 research stipend. Awarded 3/2009.
