Forschung

I'm interested in the topographic evolution of mountains at different scales: from the earthquake cycle and single ruptures via repeated faulting and interacting fault arrays to the current landscape and relief of mountain ranges and their forelands. Approaches, I use, include tools from paleoseismology, tectonic geomorphology, structural geology, numerical modeling (user), terrestrial laser scanning, GIS and remote sensing, and Quaternary geochronology (especially terrestrial cosmogenic nuclides).

My current research projects focus on active faults in the northern Tien Shan of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, the northwestern Argentine foreland, the northern Hangay mountains in Mongolia, and the Alborz mountains in Iran.
