Biography

2017-
PhD Student, Universität Potsdam, Germany (Remote Sensing / Geology)
2014-2016
MSc Universität Potsdam, Germany (Geology)
2009-2013
BA Wesleyan University, USA (Earth and Environmental Sciences)

Research

My research focuses on the use of various remote sensing platforms (terrestrial, aerial, and space) to study geomorphology within the Remote Sensing and Earth Surface Processes group at Potsdam. Together, we develop methods for working with dense topographic data and study the interaction of climate, lithology, biology, and tectonics on shaping the Earth's surface.

Teaching

Occasional teaching assistant to: Introduction to GIS, Applied Remote Sensing, Digital Data Analysis.

Publications

Selected Articles:

Purinton, B. and Bookhagen, B.: Measuring decadal vertical land-level changes from SRTM-C (2000) and TanDEM-X (∼ 2015) in the south-central Andes, Earth Surf. Dynam., 6, 971-987, https://doi.org/10.5194/esurf-6-971-2018, 2018.

Purinton, B. and Bookhagen, B.: Validation of digital elevation models (DEMs) and comparison of geomorphic metrics on the southern Central Andean Plateau, Earth Surf. Dynam., 5, 211-237, doi:10.5194/esurf-5-211-2017, 2017.

Selected Conferences:

Purinton, B. and Bookhagen, B.: Elevation validation and geomorphic metric comparison with focus on ASTER GDEM2, SRTM- C, ALOS World 3D, and TanDEM-X, EGU, Vienna, Austria, EGU2017-4510, 2017.

Purinton, B. and Bookhagen, B.: Processing, validating, and comparing DEMs for geomorphic application on the Puna de Atacama Plateau, northwest Argentina, EGU, Vienna, Austria, 2016.
