Research

My broad research interests are in rift processes and lake ontogeny and the associated environmental consequences at various time scales. My current research focus is on palaelimnology of shallow inland lakes of Chiuta and Malombe in South Malawi (S.E. Africa) and its implications on the fishery using multi-proxy techniques. The research is being conducted in conjunction with University of Hull (UK)

Teaching

I teach the following course at the University of Malawi:

  • An introduction to rocks and minerals

Publications

Dulanya Z., Morales-Simfors, N., Sivertun, Å., 2010. Comparative study of the silica and cation geothermometry of the Malawi hot springs: Potential alternative energy sourceJournal of African Earth Sciences, 57, 321-327.

Dolozi, M. B., Kalindekafe, L. S. N., Ngongondo, C.,  Dulanya, Z., 2011. A comparative analysis of the distribution, composition and geochemistry of surface sediments in the Linthipe and Songwe River Deltas of Lake Malawi. Journ. African earth Science.

Dulanya, Z., Kaonga, H. (accepted). Preliminary investigation of the Malawi Coalfires. in Stracher, Glenn B., Prakash, Anupma, and Sokol, Ellina V., eds., Coal and Peat Fires: A Global Perspective, Volume 3 (Case Studies - Coal Fires): Elsevier
