Research
Research Area: Seismicity and Structure of Subduction Zones
I am primarily interested in understanding and resolving the structure of subduction zones, using a wide variety of seismological techniques. Data analyses include, but are not limited to, local tomography methods to resolve the structure and moment tensor inversion for the source mechanisms. The results from these studies are combined with other datasets such as geodetic measurements or slip distributions from great earthquakes to obtain an integrated picture of subduction zones. I am currently focusing on the lateral segmentation of subduction zones, strain partitioning along convergent margins and accurate location techniques. I seek to apply innovative methods of data processing and analysis to maximise the geophysical constraints that can be inferred from the observations, therefore spending a certain amount of my time coding. My areas of current interest are South America (Chile in particular) and the Sumatran margin, an area of intensive seismicity following the large magnitude 2004 earthquake.
